Cat Training- Very Useful

Cats are capable of learning simple tasks, but it is helpful to understand how cats think and the methods to which they respond. That is why cat training is so important. Praise is a useful tool and rewards will help cats learn what you want them to do. Cat training sessions will usually only last for 5 to 10 minutes as cats have short attention spans. They aren't like dogs who enjoy playing fetch for the entire afternoon.

Cats can be taught to relieve themselves using the household human facilities if the owner wishes. Some cats do not appear to take to toilet training, but most can be successfully trained with a lot of patience.

The cat appreciates the clean facility, but may balk a bit because they were taught by their mother to scratch their stool into sand, litter or soil.

Cats can be potty trained. There are kitten training kits available that can be used for young kittens or adult cats. Kittens will be easier to train as their habits are less ingrained. Training an adult cat will take a little longer. If there are accidents during training, the cat urine can be neutralized by using a commercial product or some lemon juice.

To begin with, place the box in the vicinity of the toilet. Gradually raise it up, a step at a time, from the floor. You will need to use a solid support when doing this. Continue this process for several weeks. Eventually, you can place the box on the toilet. When this occurs, training with the toilet surface can begin.

Tape a thick foil roaster pan to the underside of the toilet seat, on top of the toilet base. Partially fill the pan with a small amount of cat litter. As he becomes accustomed to this, keep enlarging the hole until he has to stand on the actual toilet seat. Always make it easy for him to accomplish by leaving the seat up.

Cat training is more successful when started as a kitten. Cats can be trained to walk on a leash as dogs do. When beginning this training you must be patient and keep the walks limited to short distances. Cats need to be given a bit of leeway to explore when going on these walks. If you have gone too far you may have to carry the cat home if they are too tired. As with dogs, it is important to give your cat praise each time he or she listens when you call their name.
